Woke up a little late and discovered a kids surf contest going on right outside the front door of the hotel. It was the same as soccer or little league at home. Supportive parents giving words of encouragement, kids laughing and fooling around with each other. It was striking to see the kids’ comfort level in the water. It was like they’d spent as much time in it as they’d spent on land. Tasks that would have been impossible for non-native people were simple for them, little things like walking across sharp rocks barefoot with board in hand to reach the water, climbing around the boat docks, or even just swimming or paddling their boards is effortless. Their skin is like a dark brown leather, no sun tan lotion necessary.

I returned the rented paddle board and got some more snorkel gear. One last go round with the fishes, after which I did a little exploring of the ritzy Westin condo complex. It was simply the nicest hotel type place I’d ever visited in my life. The pool area was utter perfection. Swaying palms, giant pools, hot tubs, and water slides. In some areas the deck chair were replace with what looked like covered beds. It was they lap of luxury. So nice, in fact, that I decided to stay the afternoon and blog by the pool.

Bought dinner at the deli of a local market and ate it at one of the picnic tables by the beach…..where I was treated to the most glorious sunset I’ve yet to see on this trip.

I guess I just took it slow today......in an attempt to soak up the last rays of Hawaii.....
