Monday July 4, 2011

One of the benefits of having a turtle like home on your back is that it’s easy to be the first guy to the party. One can rise at early, drive to the zoo traffic free, get the best parking spot in the lot and go back to sleep til the place opens. And that’s just exactly what I did.

The San Diego Zoo was unbelievable, most definitely the highlight of the entire trip so far. They had every animal you’d want to see including the usual monkey’s loins, tigers, and bears. Additionally they had some amazing animals like pandas, koala bears and the highlight of the day, the polar bears.

The place was set up very cool and never felt crowded. I even passed high above the zoo via chairlift. It was clean and user super friendly. It was a challenge to see everything in one day and by days end was I was cooked.

Being the 4th of July however, there was no rest for the weary, so fireworks it is. The San Diego County fair at Del Mar raceway was apparently the place to be as throngs of cars and people were there for the fair and the fireworks. The fireworks I saw this year had an interesting twist in that they were out to music. “Baby you're a firework” etc…you get the idea. It was probably the best fireworks display I’ve ever seen. And the fun did not end there. Up next was REO Speedwagon live and onstage…..They were a hoot and reminded me of the day I bought their Hi-Infidelity album from the Pharmacy in downtown Sterling….you’d have to be around town for a while to remember that place. The singer was tough to swallow knowing that the last time I saw his mug was pushing “Time-Life Music’s Best 150 Best rock and roll songs of all time! All the classics found in one box set!” Anyway……I can’t fight this feeling any longer so…I’ve got to roll with the changes.

She sent me an email the other day saying that we were both on our own journeys. I was traveling roughshod about the country and she was on her journey toward motherhood. It could happen any day for you now Meskiuk and I love that you’re realizing a dream. I always said that there is no other person on the earth that would make a better mother than you. Now you’ve got your own Koala Meskiuk.

“There once was a baby Koala, sooooooo soft, and soooooo round, that everyone who knew him loved him……”

As myliu tave mana meskutele….buckiuk!
