Moving north up the coast I was able to spot whales blowing spray into the air, seals jumping completely out of the water, and even came across a herd of elephant seals making the most deep guttural sounds I’ve ever heard from a living thing.

At one stop I saw 4 California condors. At one time there was thought to be less than 22 left on earth. With help from the San Diego zoo, there are now around 320 and the number is rising every year. Each bird weighs around 60 pounds, a lot of weight to get off the ground, thus the 8-foot plus wingspan. They are true giants of the air and look like they’d need an airport to land

The drive up the coast was so good. There were very few people and nothing but great views, hidden beaches, and rolling fields. I was satisfied that I took the long way….

Finally reaching San Francisco it was time book the flight to Hawaii, state number 48 on the list. And did just that……flight scheduled to leave at 9am the day after tomorrow. That night I parked the camper along the sea wall in a town called Pacifica. Whenever I find myself by the sea at night it reminds me of my days in Eastbourne England and all the great times I had there in college. We used to take walks along the sea at all hours of the day. The cold, dark, foggy air brings me right back….. just because so many years have passed Louise, don’t think I don’t remember….
