With the camper safely parked between two National Park Police cruisers, it was on to the airport. I felt significant separation anxiety as I watched the camper get smaller in the rear view mirror. I felt naked without it….It was tough to leave her behind and was nerve-wracking to wonder if I actually had everything I would need for the next few weeks.

Tried typing the blog for a while on the flight but my laptop battery died at an alarmingly quick rate. It was had been charging all night so it looked like I now had a problem with my laptop.

When the flight reservations were booked on the computer the other day, the final question asked was whether or not I wanted to be greeted with an actual Hawaiian lei when I got off the plane for an additional 15 bucks……and you know I did it…..and I was the only one who did. C’mon you know you would have done the same…..just like the Brady Bunch.

Took a 2 hour power nap before hitting the streets…..the first thing I saw was a rainbow. It would turn out that I’d see one every day I was here.

My initial thoughts of Waikiki on my first walk from the hotel? Unbelievable……the weather was perfect, nice and warm with that gentle trade wind. The tourists were out in droves. 80% were Asian, 10% were Europeans, and the rest were Americans. People were surfing, swimming, listening to music, and buying up everything in sight. I even saw that white watch again I liked so much in San Diego, and again was able to fight off the urge to buy it. Hawaii was just like you see on TV, everyone dressed so casual and relaxed, enjoying the amazing weather. It was nice…..so was the bed in the hotel…..and the TV.

Aloha #48…..
